Senior Vice President – Internal Audit: AML, Financial Crimes, and Legal

We are seeking a highly experienced and strategic Senior Vice President for our Internal Audit team, specializing in Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Financial Crimes, and Legal functions. In this role, you will lead the evaluation of the organization’s financial crime risks and ensure robust compliance with regulatory requirements. You will play a key role in driving the integrity and effectiveness of internal controls, while collaborating with senior leadership to support the firm’s objectives.

About the Role:
As the Senior Vice President, you will manage the audit activities related to AML, financial crimes, and legal compliance. You will be responsible for overseeing audits, assessing internal controls, and ensuring that the organization’s risk management processes align with regulatory standards. Your role will be critical in safeguarding the firm’s financial systems and maintaining compliance with legal and industry requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

Lead and manage the internal audit function for AML, financial crimes, and legal compliance, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and best practices
Evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls related to AML, financial crimes, and legal processes across the organization
Oversee audits of key functions, including monitoring systems, policies, procedures, and controls for compliance with laws and regulations
Collaborate with business leaders and stakeholders to assess risk management practices and advise on remediation of any identified weaknesses
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes, industry trends, and emerging risks related to financial crimes, AML, and legal matters
Provide strategic insights to senior management and the board on audit findings, risks, and recommendations
Develop and execute comprehensive audit plans, ensuring thorough assessment of potential risks and vulnerabilities
Supervise, mentor, and lead a team of auditors, providing guidance and support to ensure high-quality audit deliverables
Ensure the timely preparation of audit reports and presentation of findings to key stakeholders, including management and regulators
Monitor the resolution of audit issues and ensure the implementation of corrective actions

What We’re Looking For:

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related field (advanced certifications such as CIA, CPA, or CISA preferred)
10+ years of experience in audit, risk management, AML, financial crimes, or legal compliance, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role
Deep knowledge of AML regulations, financial crime risk management, and legal compliance frameworks
Strong understanding of internal controls, risk assessment methodologies, and audit processes
Proven track record in managing audits and addressing complex regulatory and compliance issues
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence senior management and other stakeholders
Strong analytical skills and a high level of attention to detail
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment while managing multiple priorities and deadlines
